Cichlaholic16, if you look on MonsterFishKeepers classifieds, there is a guy selling wild Red Istlanum that he collected himself .  I think he is selling them for like $69 each plus shipping, but they are definately wilds.  You might have to check a couple pages back to find them.  He also is on the Central American cichlids forum on MFK quite often.  He goes by JoeFatFish.  Hope you get some! ;)

I used to work with istlantum and when I was working for Ric P. Beautiful fish and really cool, but I seriously wonder how these fish are able to reproduce in the wild as any conspecific they see is brutalized.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

My Izzy is from the Same Batch as Scott's, and was housed in a 38 with 6 others, it soon became just him, so I moved him to a 10, realize he was only 1/2-3/4" when he systematically destroyed (aggression spurred bloat) the rest of his family. Kind of a Michael Myers complex.

He did fantastic for me, was so owner interactive with me, but I had space issues and he needed more room, so he was moved to a friend (Motag7 - Kevin) a local Grayslake buddy who is a cichlaholic, just as I. He now is about 4.5" and roams a 125 with amps much larger then him; he has taken out anything that is not an amp. Very aggressive fish, as mike stated at the young stage, you will have a group, get a dominate fish, and he will abuse the rest into an aggression bloat until they are eliminated. This species is a fish that is truly not a community cichlid. when I get my 55 up and running in the back room, he will return, and be a solo fish, as his interaction with me is/was amazing, I could stick my hand in, no problem, clean, do whatever, he would just get out of the way and go hide, then come right back to me to eat 10 minutes later. But if, say someone else, like my daughter found out, try to feed him, or come up to the tank, he becomes a glass banger, and splasher.

One of my top 3 cichlids of all time! Izzys are the shit, man! I can not wait to get another! (I got to get Kevin to give him back! LOL!), if not, ill raise another...Awesome fish!

Nuthman~

Actually, I believe I have three istlantum.  Below is a pic, the fish in the lower right I found with two mates in a 29g under a sponge filter.  There were alot of fish that went through that tank, but I believe they are surviving istlantum that Mike brought in.  They are really slow growing, or are stunted, but they feed very well, and seem to have started to thrive only just recently.  Who knows....maybe when they grow out they'll end up being multispinosa....lol

I'm sorry, but I cannot give you much info on them...only how to kill them.

We brought in 20 or so last year from Don Conkel.  He has a breeding pair or two.

Aggressive?  Yes.  Prone to bloat?  Yes.  Prone to killing each other? Yes.

They like it warm.

I lost most of mine and then sold the remaining 3 or 4 to some guy in Wisconsin.  Scott is out and Nuth may have one or two left.

Very rare in the hobby.  there are lots of single fish out there, but very few pairs, it seems.
