Agreed I have kept all 3, a few people have pellegrini in usa now, and spawned them, a much more popular fish in europe, I am one of the few, I am on my second group, I will be stripping a female next week, another female spawned today, conkel has supplied them recently. I will post some pics...all the "red humps" are avail from time to time...

Steindachneri are a great fish. Easy to breed when young, then they become super aggressive. I've kept crassilabrus for a little bit. Slow growers and aggrssive. I think spawning them would be a challenge. Very little is known on pellegrini in the USA because only a few people have kept them. They have been kept a little in Europe, but it still isn't a very popular fish. I've heard they are slightly more aggressive as well.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

I'll take the x10 to be mainly directed toward the ruthless hostility the steinies are capable of? Also **** is that f**k steinys or l*ve steinys?
would you agree that the steiny is one of the top easiest fish to breed. I saw some very cool videos of fry swarming back into their mothers mouth.

this is  a good link about the difference between the 3 confused species. My fish does have the hockey stick pattern but I'm thoroughly convinced steiny. it says the other two are incredibly difficult to care for; opposite the steindachneri.

Steindachneri males when large become relentless on other males and then females. They can become aggressive towards other fish, but it is mostly aggression towards members of its own species. I think they may beat on your gymnogeophagus. They actually work surprisingly well in a large tank with mbuna and haps.

Yeah that's what I thought. I've learned a lot about these fish since I've posted this and how the name pellegrini gets tossed around. Would this pair be too aggressive to be kept with gymno labiatus rio olimars? I've heard them described as being calm but that doesn't always mean much. Right now the labiatus are larger but I read the steinies are fast growers.

Steindachneri. Only a handful of people in the USA have kept pellegrini. Pellegrini also look much different than that.

steini or pellegrini? I got it as a pellegrini but it looks like a steini to me. he has a spot on the caudal. I've read this means it's a steini however i've found profiles of pellegrinis with pics of fish with the spot. maybe this is just an incorrect pic.
