I would come to the Cichlid Classic if I didn't have a family get-together in Savannah, GA. Is this planned around Memorial Day weekend every year?

Thanks Don!

I can not believe I forgot the Classic! Thanks for the add brother! I will be at all 3 days of the Classic, Overnight with the Fam, on Friday (While they enjoy the Water Park!) and I attend Lectures and the Hospitality Suite, more Lectures Saturday, then home sat nite, just to return, sunday AM for the Auction.

Great Time! Last year was excellent!!

I would also like to add, coming in May, our Cichlid Classic. It run May 23-25, great place to meet other fish people. If its your first time I would suggest coming Saturday morning and staying the nite and attending our large Cichlid auction on Sunday.  You can come all three days of course. Also you can sell or buy in our auction, the last few auctions we have had 800-1000 bags of fish, and yes, we stay till there all sold. It's only $20 to regester for the weekend. Please see the advertising on our main page. Also you can get a good feel for our events by looking at the Picture Gallery on the main page, it has photo's of some of our past events.

We you decide to come, please stop and introduce yourself
Thanks Don Weger

Hello~

While the travel and the cost to make it sometimes will make it seem unrealistic. The Speakers are top Notch, from all things cichlids, to Loaches like we just had 2 months ago (Author & Loach Fanatic Jim Powers) to great Fish Sellers and Breeders like Pete Durkin. The GCCA Meetings are also a great way to interact and meet with cichlid nuts in the northern illinois area (and more). The great thing about the Meetings as well as the bowl shows, Raffles, and BAP auctions.Don't forget the GCCA Libaray! If you decide to join and hit a meeting, we have a large selection of books for you to borrow and read and retun. Can't read enough!

The Swaps are held 4 times a year, and have done nothing but get bigger each time. I like to hit the swaps early, have 90% of my deals done early by contacting sellers ahead of time using the GCCA Classifieds. Then spend the rest of my time grabbing deals and spending my whole fish budget in one swoop!

I try (I say Try) to make as many meetings as possible, but life happens and a great recap is available via "The Cichlid Chatter" that we get 6 times a year as an added benefit to becoming a GCCA Member. Come to a meeting as a guest and you will not be dissapointed.

Please let me know if I (Or any of the Staff) can be more assistance to you. We have a great group of Crazy folks here with one thing in common....

At each of the meetings there as a minimum of 30 people usually more, but in the summer the mettings tend to be smaller because families get busy with the kids and out door activities and such.

As far as the bowl show, there are usually at least 8 entries usually more depending on the Genus being shown that month.

There is an Auction at every meeting. usually the Auction consists of Club mambers submissions for BAP points. The fish sold are usually small about 1/2 inch and go for $1-2 a bag depending on the species.

As far as programs and speakers go I guess the club doesnt bring in bigger more expensive speakers in the summer because of lower attendence. In the fall and winter months we usually have more well known speakers. We sometimes have fish shipped in from a fish farm and have members only special auctions. We usually announce those in advance. Last month we watched a movie. sometimes we dont have a speaker confirmed until a week or so until the meeting, and the person who gets the speakers has to notify the webmaster to update the website.

The favorite topics of the speakers vary from person to person. I myself love Tanganykians and Apistogramma species so any talks involving those are good for me. We've had guys who have talked and shown pictures of collection trips in South America, we had a texan with a thick southern accent give a talk on discus that made it seem so simple even I could keep discus. We also had a 80+ year old guy show 2 slide reels of pictures of tubs full of fish.

As much as we would love for you to come to a meeting and check us out it seems kind of not worth it. While you will meet a lot of accomplished breeders and well versed people on cichlids the 5 hours of driving is rough. The meeting usually let out about 9:30 depending on the length of the speaker and the number of bags for auction.

I wasn't sure where to post these questions. I did read the information about GCCA but still have questions. I'd like to attend some of the GCCA events but its a 2 1/2 hour drive so I'd like to know a bit more about them first.

How many people come to the meetings?
Is there a bowl show and auction at every meeting and how many participate?
If I took fish to a meeting or swap to sell, how assured would I be about selling them and not having to drive them back home?
Right now the topic for the May meeting is not posted, will it be posted soon?
What are the favorite topics at meetings?
