The swaps are a madhouse, we need to change this IMHO

I was thinking like a posted, one or two poster sized maps.  An online pdf would also be extremely helpful.

the map copuld be printed on a half sheet of paper, 600 maps = 300 sheets of paper. i would think the cost would be about $15 not counting the time required to go to a kinkos either friday or saturday night. my concern is more of the waste and amount of maps strewn about the hotel, which someone could slip on leading to a liability issue.

Ray brings up a lot of valid points. The cost to the club would be ridiculously expensive and wasteful. I do know that if you ask someone at the admission table they can usually tell you where someone is located. I don't think that it would be that big of a problem to post the setup "map" on the web the night before so people could print it out if they wanted, but I will leave that up to Rick and the new swap chair Dave Wilkins to decide.

the seller map thing is something that i think we can do. the only problem with the map idea is making a guess at the number of maps needed. i think we had almost 700 poeple come through the last swap not counting vendors. plus this would need to be something done saturday night incase of last minute cancelations.

besdies being an added cost, and the extra work to get maps made before the swap at a kinkos, it would also be a lot of wasted paper that is spossibly littered around the seller room which could lead to the GCCA being charged additional monies for room cleaning fees.

i think that instead of having the maps at the swap, maybe posting one online the friday before the swap in a PDF format so those who would like a map could print one for themself. we already have the program for the swap and can easily turn the map into a PDF file and posting it to the GCCA Swap page would only take a matter of minutes.

lets wait for rick to comment on this issue since he is both the webmaster and the swap chairman, plus other positions i may have forgotten.

I second that seller map idea.  That way, people who did their homework online(checked out who was selling what) could easily find that person.

In my opinion,

The last swap meet was so chaotic because not alot sellers knew where the other specific sellers tables were that was selling a specific species I was asking who had this and that and where was a specific seller on the list from the website.....I could tell the difference between the "shoppers" and the "persons who were on a specific mission"

Maybe getting a map like "community garage sale maps" with lists of items/species the seller is selling and have a huge flag or headboard that can be seen over everyones heads for that company/seller's name on it so the guests can easily locate that specific seller they want to see.  I'm at average height for a woman and it was hard to see over everyones heads to see what was going on at that specific table It would have cut down my foot traffic into 1/4! I'm sure more people would benefit from this navigation.

Especially those who cannot hear over crowds that well. deaf/hard-of-hearing folks ;)

Yep that was me and Shelly. The girl ended up fainting out in the lobby again. Paramedics took her to the emergency room.

The swaps do get really crowded, there was a young lady and a young man in front of our table purchasing fish, and she started to faint or something. luckily, one of the vendors next to us was trained in these kind of emergencies. thanks to them!!
