Once upon a time....
There lived a girl with, sadly, one 55 gallon fish tank.  The fish in this tank were not like the pretty African cichlids she used to keep, oh no...they were...stupid fish.  Some crazy hybrids that were not very pretty.  These...were rescued fish. Someone's desperate need to get rid of  a few "undesirables" from their tank, and so, they were brought to the girl.  She took them in even against her better judgment.  As the days grew to weeks and months grew to a year, she would pass by the fish tank and sigh.  It didn't take long for her to regret her decision.  Instead of the bright and colorful, active fish tank she could watch for hours and enjoy...the tank became a cold and destitute corner of her once warm and comfortable room.  She tried desperately to rid herself of this burden.  She would stop feeding the ugly fish...only to, days later, feel guilty at the sight of their caved in little bellies.  Out of sheer guilt, she would start the cycle again, by offering them the tiny morsels that they desired.  The water was never changed, most of the time the tank was dark.  The fish were unsure of the girls intentions, was she trying to depress them to death?  Maybe, she didn't care how or why, but without trying to be mean about it...she was hoping for their demise.  Longing to return the fish tank to the pure africans (not the half-breeds) she used to keep.

Fast forward a couple of months...
The girl met a boy.  This boy had always longed to have a fish tank of his own.  The girl knew what was the right thing to do...the half breeds were disposed of (the girl knew better than to ask how), and the tank was moved to his house where he could care for it as it should be.  There the tank flourished,  male african peacocks frolicked and played...and so it began.

One tank grew to 2, then 3, then........................12.  Ranging in size from 10 gallons to 125g.

THE END

Shelly

The easiest way to keep cichlids is to convince your man that it is his hobby... He does all the work and you get all the rewards. :)

Hey everyone,

My name is Scott Engel and live in Woodridge.  I have been into fish my whole life.  Started with tetras and bala sharks when I was 7 or 8 and has progressed through tropicals, angels, discus, now africans and saltwater for the past 4 years or so.  It's amazing to me how many tanks everyone has.  Also very jealous because of it.

I currently have a 150G with all of my adult haps and peacocks...male show tank.  One 125G with all my juvi's that I am growing out.  Also a 75G reef tank that has been up and running for 3+ years.  Looking forward to meeting everyone here.  I know i've been to a couple of your houses already to pick up some male peacocks or haps.

Been doing the aquatics thing for about 5 years now, it keeps me out of priso.....err....trouble.  :D  I'm in Evergreen Park, hope to get a litle communication going between the clubs, to the benefit of both.
