i think i made a killing! aparently those cheeseheads dont know a good fish when it slaps them in tha face. just kidding.

Watch it, mister!  ;D

Glad you guys all came up.  The more people we have come to it, the better the fish selection will be....

I got alot of good stuff for some great deals.

Best was a very nice young torquoise discus for $15 for my wife!

Also, a nice adult pindu....used to be the Dude's apparently before the woman I bought it from owned it.

Two kinds of jewel cichlids (including a wild caught pair of H. guttatus, which I've got all set up in their own tank with cherry barbs as dither).  Pretty excited about those too.

Also, some H. bartoni.....

Fun day, overall.  Seemed like a nice variety...not endless bags of one type of fish....

There were 3 bags of "black bees" at this auction. each bag had 3 fish. i only got one bag of them and they were $13.

the ones i have that were the "black bees" are kinda boring borwn with a black tail.  so they may not actually be "black bees"

the adult pair of tri-color i have are awesome - brown body black dorsalwith white edging, and yellow tail.

the tri-colors i bought from a guy at the swap are still pretty small but look identical to the "black bee" i just bought.

i talk to the guy who i bought the cyps from at the swap and he said they were tricolor and is going to bring me 10 more at the next swap. i will post pics of the various cyps in another post

RM-Slover, did I read that you stumbled upon Black bees at two different auctions?  Is so, this is an OUTSTANDING find.  These fish appear to have dried up in this area, and for the most part, in the hobby (for the moment).  Those that do exist are not throwing the yellow-tail, black body variety- as far as I know.  I know Anthony on Staten Island (sicichlids) and Kurt in Colorado (rocky mountain cichlids) both have some, but I don't know how they look, and what fry they are throwing.

Aaron- you are absolutely right about the location.  These are generally regarded as a distinct type of tricolor found only at Mpimbwe.  I have encountered many people who suggest otherwise, but this simply is not the case.  Take a look at the:

"Cyprichromis sp. Leptosoma Jumbo #1:
www.ne.jp/asahi/kennel/inutarou/02/cyprichromisjumbo01.htm "

... reference in my "Inutarou's KENNEL" post in the Tanganyikan section, and you can see how there is something very distinct going on at Mpimbwe that is not happening elsewhere- especially among tri-colors.

Generally, I assume that combining these with other tricolors would produce tricolor fry- but considering them to be black bee fry would not technically be correct.  If someone is selling black bees, and you are interested in adding to your colony, be sure their fish are associated with Mpimbwe... if not, they are not bees.

Aaron, we may have discussed this recently in regards to the wild Muzi's from a vendor to remain anonymous was selling?  I believe that he referred to the Muzi's as black bees?  Notice that once I acquired wild Muzi's, you got my bees.  They are different fish.

I hope you guys like these.  They are a cool jumbo cyp that I have found to be substantially less aggressive than the other jumbo cyps that I have kept.  If/when they color up, and if you have a yellow-tail male, they are very sharp.

All Black bees are Mpimbwe.

Good to know...that makes it a little more difficult to mess up adding to a group.

i dont know anything about cyps - i just wanted some. i tried to move up a bag of them as a priority bag, but i think the seller bought them after i "stole" the first bag. and i think i was getting something to eat when the 3rd bag went up.

i'll look into it a little more and see if i can narrow out a location.

and the adult tri-colors are both male jeff said - i dont car they look cool. i'll try to get some pics tonight.

here are the pics - www.gcca.net/gccaforum/index.php/topic,573.0.html

i think i made a killing! aparently those cheeseheads dont know a good fish when it slaps them in tha face. just kidding.

i picked up an adult pair of zebra brevis for $10

2 adult tri-color Cyps for $5 i think

3 Black Bee Cyps 1bout 2-2 1/2 inches for 13

more yellow labs than i could shake a stick at for 2-3 a bag. i even bought some labs off some guy named jim lehner...who's this guy?

i picked up a wild apistogramma male, and 2 wild male pelvicachromis humillis. the apisto was $5, and the westies were $1 each.

i think i am missing something, but i left with 9 bags and a tshirt for $50

if you like plants they had a redonkeylous amount of plants for auctio. it was almost 1 plant for every 2 bags of fish. they ecen auctioned off styro's - some guy paid $5 for a styro and it didnt have a top.

and if you like goofy livebearers that was the place to be - more "endangered" central american live bearers to count. maybe if the relesed some of those at the auction the wouldnt be endangered anymore.

it was nice to put some faces with names, like ted judy, jeff michaels (aquaticclarity), the reptilejk guy, and as nuth refers to him as "the dude".

There was another guy from illinois there who got in a bidding was with eric rogne over some tropheus - bad idea. i know he was from illinois becasue as my "toaster" was flying down 94 i passed him and his illinois plates.

and they had green beer straight out of the tap, and some awesome root beer in cool bottles! that kinda sums it up - did i miss anything sawboy and dgarnier?
