Welcome, Im in west dundee.

Budget builds are my specialty even though we got a very expensive very high tech tank its the ONLY and last one I will ever do.

Craigslist, gcca and ebay classifieds have helped me out a bunch.
There are other local clubs that have sites you can get good gear dirt cheap as well.

I keep SA's and SA dwarfs.(discus,angels,rams.)

Welcome Rob!
I'm a neighbor too! In Woodstock.
I'm also very familiar with building a fishroom on a tight budget. Feel free to drop in and see what can be done with garage sale finds, craigslist ads etc.
Just drop me a pm.

Welcome Rob,

Swap is a great place to load up on good stock and equipmet at a inexpensive price. Also keep your eyes on the GCCA classifieds.

If you need anything don't hesitate to ask. Oh and we are kinda neighbors as I'm in Marengo.

Good luck

Hello all,

I am a new GCCA member from Lake in the Hills (far NW Chicago suburb).  I have attended two meetings so far (John Oyer's Rare fish auction & Anthony Tu's Frontoso talk). I have met a lot of friendly members so far at our meetings and at the LFS.  I have kept both old & new world cichlids in the past but have been away from the hobby for too long.  I'm currently attempting to start again anew, on a tight budget, by taking advantage of local sales like Petco's $1/gallon sale and used equipment from Craigslist.  My current interests aside from Mbunas will be trying some Tanganyikan species, Dwarf Cichlids, and some other relatively more peaceful species under 5" max size.  I'm looking forward to contributing to the clubs BAP breeding program and I thank the club for reminding me that there are many more species of the fish we love out there aside from the common fare we see at the big box pet stores.
