They could have been, from the surface the small fish had iridescent blue lines on each side that ran from eye to caudal. I'm out of my element with killies. They looked live bearish.

I had some uros years ago (they were sold to me as festae but weren't). If I remember right, it was about 5"  when they started getting red.  Before that they were basic brown.  When they spawned they really got bright, and were exemplary parents.

If you end up with uros keep us updated. I'm kind of interested in what they look like as their growing. My store bought 1 didn't get color til about 4-5 inches. It would be interesting to see when the wilds start turning.

The tilapia were very wary, very fast, and must have weighed a couple lbs, uncatchable, so didn't bring anything home.  I think if I had one of those throw nets, it may have been possible to get something baggable.
If I found and caught uropthalmus fry, I may have bagged and brought them.
And bath above, should read bass.

Almost every pond I checked out was full of tilapines spawning, big guys (@ a foot) holding cleaned spawning sites @ 2' square area very close to shore. Also saw 5" tilapines schooling with young large mouth bath in the lake below.
Tried dip netting but only got gambusia(?) fry.
