I’m sorry guys but I can see rm-solvers point of view. There really isn’t any benefits to being a member unless you a really into breeding. Then its a benefit to be a member. It allows you to learn much information from going to meeting ad events. But that does help. You do learn great things. But probably wasn’t best way to bring it up. I can see the positive and negative point for each side.

Just my own opinion.

dumb question...
how can i be a members? and whats the benifit of being a members?

pay $20 for a single, or $23 for a family at a meeting or event such as the xmas party. read above for the benefits.

And I am a paying member for the past 2 years. There are many things the club could do such as dave suggested......

Wow Ray, I am almost speechless...almost.

I am sorry that YOU feel there is no benefit to being a member, that is your opinion, don't push it off on others.

What you posted is in very poor taste. What do you think that statement says to the young people who read this board...it's ok to get a free ride when you can...don't worry, you don't have to actually give anything at all, just reap the benefits of, well, whatever.

First of all, there are a lot of benefits of being a member.  In addition to the benefits mentioned by previous posters, you have the camaraderie of fellow fish enthusiasts.

And how about contributing to "a greater good" by being part of a club that contributes to conservation so our children and our children's children can learn about and keep these fish that we enjoy so much, through experience, not just some fairytale in a history book because too many people stood idly by and did nothing.

Haven't you ever done something good or charitable just to do it, not for recognition or because you had to...You should try it sometime...doing something that isn't all about you... It feels pretty good.

I hope that makes sense because I am aggrevated that there was a statement like that written by one of our members (?).  Sorry for the rant but, gees, come on.  >:(

The easiest way to keep cichlids is to convince your man that it is his hobby... He does all the work and you get all the rewards. :)

A nice perk would be at swap sign up time - members get to sign up a day before every one else, and if theres a wait list members move to the top of the Q

This thread is not about the swap or any other suggestions there in.

Back to the topic.

Who else is going to the x-mas party?

No Ray, they shouldnt feel free to free ride.  You shouldnt encourage low life behaviour like that.

As a member you get to participate in the BAP program.

As a member you can volunteer and contribute to the growth of the club.

As a member, you are part of the reason we can donate $ to the ACA consevation fund.

As a mameber, you get mailed copies of the Chatter.

You get the fellowship of hanging out with your fish friends.  Do you really think it is a good thing to be the one non-paying guy in the group who takes and takes while your buddies are picking up the tab?

You are joinging something you believe in.

If we charged more and 'gave" more, I am sure there would still be bitching.

Agree completely no one gets a free ride.

Although i've had this discussion with Rebecca, and there really is no real benefit to membership versus free ride. With the membership you get to to go the picnic, go to the xmas party, and participate in the members only auction. To some people those 3 perks are not really worth the $20 or $23 a year. Because even as a non member you can go to the swaps and the 2 auctions the club has, and attend all the monthly meetings. Membership does not get you a discount on a swap table for being a member, no cheaper admission, and no better take at the auctions.

So if you really love bowling and pizza, and a BBQ pay the membership, if not feel free to free ride.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread as I step off my box of Tide.

This is in effect stealing from the club and its members. I don't believe that any of the fine individuals that I know from the club would condone these actions.

Also any sort of bashing of the GCCA will not be tolerated on this forum. If you have a problem take it to the appropriate people through the PM system.

This is warning #2!

Because even as a non member you can ... attend all the monthly meetings.

When did the meetings open up?  I thought you could attend one but then your second mtg you had to cough over the club membership fee.

Not checked for facts.
