Just wanted to share this with everyone....

A few months ago I was moving and wondered how to best move my tank.  I went to the local Petsmart and asked teir advise on how to best transport the fish I had.  What I got was more than just good info!!!  The employee there gave me on of the boxes that they recieved fish in.  This turned out to be a sturdy box with a little styrofom "cooler" that fit just perfect.  I still bagged the fish, but darn is that box great.  I made sure to save it for the next time I move.

Sorry, I am new to the site and spent the night going through old posts and saw this so I thought I would share for others as future ideas on shipping needs. (By the way, this boxed was actually used for shipping the fish from CA to IL and was still perfectly intact!!!!!)

Hope this might help at some point!!!

Ted judy makes his own boxes. He gets a good strong cardboard box and custs the pink foam construction insulation to line the inside of the box with. Not sure if he silicones the inside seams but he has been using this method for a while so I would have to believe he is quite good at it.

I haven't shipped fish, but I've had them shipped to me. There were 6 fish total, three fish in two separate (double) fish bags. Lots of air. Then those bags were in a bigger plastic bag. and that bag inside a styrofoam box.

Obviously they were sent "next day air." And you have to make sure there will be someone available to physically accept them so they're not sitting in bags, in a box, out in the sun, on someone's front porch. Mine arrived alive and well.

Pretty much all common sense. Oh and I understand that you don't feed them for a day before so they aren't sitting in a bag of their own s**t for 24 hours.

Depending on where you live and how soon you plan to ship them, I have access to several types of suitable boxes for this, that I would be glad to give you.

I’m looking to ship some fish and I needed someone’s help who has done this before. I’m looking to ship 5 five from Chicago to D.C. and a couple fish from Chicago to Detroit. All of the fish are between 3-4 inches in size. I would like for someone to take me by the hand and show me how to do it right.

If you could please call me that would be great.

Regards,
Mike
