Visit to Baldtaxguy's Fishroom

Now that the fry are free swimming the parents seem to be defending them.

I will watch the fry and if start to see the numbers going down  will pull some fry to save for the BAP.

I did not give my pair a chance since the tank is a bit busy and they seemed to be disinterested.  I put the sleeve with fry in a 5g with a two drops of meth blue.  I'm traveling tomorrow, so hopefully I come across some hungry, swimming firemouth fry.

I just wasn't sure if it was because there was nothing else in the tank for them to defend against they didn't feel the need to defend. Also this tank is on the bottom rack nearest the door to the fish room so I though that might have been why they weren't defending.

While the female was on eggs she did "defend" the eggs, and by defend I mean hang out in the pot with the eggs. These fish so far are the worst of the substrate spawners so far when it comes to defending the fry. I wonder if anything will Change once these fish become free swimming.

Bob - will do.

Ray - You are absolutely right, they don't appear to be as attentive to the fry as you would normally think.  The sleeve was casually (very) being protected by the female, very half-heartedly.  She did flare at me once, which made me pull the closest pvc sleeve to see what's up, which ended up being the wrong one. The sleeve with the fry was a foot further away.  The male stopped by two times or so, but seemed disinterested as I stood by the tank.  There are six other firemouths in the tank with 4 paratalapia sp. "large spot".  I did have a spawn a few months ago, but I couldn't get to them in time to save them.  If I did not notice her flare at me, I'm sure these would have been lost also.

My Firemouth that I picked up at the ACA also just spawned. I had to pull out the 3rd firemouth because "it" was destroyed.

Scott what is in the tank with those FM? my Pair are not protecting he Wigglers at all. The fry are wiggling in a terra cotta pot and each parent is hiding behind a sponge filter. To me this is not typical behavior for South Americans. My Maclipinnis were vicious at defending fry.

There is nothing in my tank beside the the FM pair.

Scott-

That's one of the Red Heads? Whoa man! Did they grow, no Red/Orange tho? Is that an Albios in the Back with the Red on the Pecs? I thought that was the Albios with the split tail....Smoked me man!

My Reds are not that big, But I also do not have any from the original batch, (Gave them to Don, now that I think about it, I had 1 huge male).

I have only Dons, Fry/Grow outs.

Wow!

;D

Radek, you got that camera thing down.  The uaru pic is amazing.

Chris - I joked with Radek that you would drool over the uaru.  I have only three - if they breed i will make sure you get some.
