If you bag all 5 fish and label them a breeding group it counts as 1 item. You can also single bag all the fish, tape 5 bags together and label them a breeding group. All depends how large the fish are. Welcome back

It has been years since I have sold at a auction and was wondering about the rules governing the limits on the quantity of a single species allowed. If I bring a breeding group of 5 fish and sell them as a single lot does this count as (1) item or does it mean I have reached the maximum limit of (5) items?

Try now you should be good to go

Are you looking to be involved or commited
A Pig and a Chicken are walking down the road. The Chicken says, "Pig, I was thinking we should open a restaurant!". Pig replies, "What would we call it?". The Chicken responds, "How about ham-n-eggs?" The Pig thinks for a moment and says, No thanks. I'd...

I can't seem to get a seller number for the auction from the online registration form
Anyone else having this issue?
Won't let me check any of the options (seller or both)

I'm pretty sure that the (two) boards (elected officers and activity chairs - along with interested parties that are always invited to attend and volunteer to work together) understand most of the valid issues you've raised.. Just my $0.02, but things seem to be at a crossroads - with most of them driven by forces not under the club's control and then some more changes that help the club and the hobby in one way (swaps - PS - I was treasurer back when that President borrowed the concept from the reptile hobby) while changing other things (auctions). Pretty frustrating, both those parts.

On the issue of the auction split, it seems to me that the board is addressing an issue that it has control over that might improve participation - hopefully on both sides of the auction constituency. And that seems to be a good thing for this scheduled event..

Delusional might be too strong a word. No offense meant.

If the board really thinks the split is the problem, they are delusional. Classics used to be well attended events. An event where you begin promoting it 2 months out will not be a well attended event. Lower turn out on Friday and Saturday means a lower turn out on Sunday. Lower turn out = lower prices. The uncertainty of what you will receive is a bigger risk than the split. I never saw Oyer or Durkin complain when their fry bags went for $20 when there was a hug crew bidding on them. Do those guys even show up anymore?

Non classic auctions used to go til all hours of the night. Then we said no dry goods, which shaved hours off the auctions. It also stopped folks from dumping broken pumps, etc. and ripping people off. Good Move by the Board. Then we said limited number of bags per species and we lost a lot of catfish breeders who also breed other fish. Then we debated what a species was. Then we added more swaps which lowered the "need" to buy fish as you could get it many times a year. Why would the casual buyer dick around at an auction when he can get the fish he wants 6 times a year at a swap?

Small time sellers fear low prices. These are the guys who try to convince themselves they have a business and who often buy fish to resell. When you have a room full of people, you are more likely to have better prices. We tried using a reserve method on some bags a few years ago to bring in more sellers - it was a flop. Small sellers should avoid an empty auction room like the plague. They belong at the swaps where they have better certainty.

Never bring back the dry goods. Kingfish is a great guy, but having him drone on and on for the first hour was a mood killer for me. We anticipate fish, but then we listen to a product shill for an hour. I know he brought in $, and I'm sure its great for the hobby to promote products, but action attendees wanted to see fish. I understand he is retired now.

Open the auction up to "all Species". Promote it well in advance.

Auction buyers are, by and large, newbies and cheapskates. We also used to get buyers who resold either through a store or some other venue - the last time I was at an auction, they seemed to be gone. Anyone who expects more than a few bags of rare fish is going to be disappointed.

As far as the club not needing the money, be careful in your planning. I remember when were excited to have a little cash in the bank. I dont know the clubs finances, but once you cut off a revenue source, it will be hard to bring it back. No one will care that it was an experiment. If you try and reinstate the higher fees, now that you have lowered them, folks will be pissed.

Another former officer - Treasurer - for the GCCA here. This is an unprecedented break to the seller to bring in the good stuff. A cap was never needed to get interest in the big auctions (lasting past midnight) of the past which were $1 plus 20%. A $25 cap to charge per bag is very, very low to boot.

It was pointed out on another thread that the GCCA can kind of afford to bankroll the experiment for now. Not all the fish being produced in the hobby are by swap vendors, so the hobby and the average hobbyist can benefit from a strengthened auction outlet too. Although I put in some long hours at those big auctions and in the days afterward (much more "manual"), I always enjoyed the full fish immersion of fish and people.

Buyers should also notice the added incentive for a much larger selection at the auction and show up to take advantage as well.. I don't have much in the way of fish to sell this year, but I plan to be there the whole time as a buyer and have some tank space available.

Nice job GCCA Board, the reduced Auction Split to the club and a Max Cap per bag will really benefit the Sellers. Hopefully, it will entice Sellers to bring some of there rarer fish in for Auctions
Sale = Cap to Club = Seller % = New Seller $ Past Seller $
$25 -- 5.80 -- 76.8 -- 19.20 -- 18.00
$50 -- 5.80 -- 88.4 -- 44.20 -- 36.75
$75 -- 5.80 -- 92.2 -- 69.20 -- 55.50
$100 -- 5.80 -- 94.2 -- 94.20 -- 74.25
As a past Auction Chairman this really excites me, we used to get four or five bags ranging from the $75 to $100 plus mark at each auction. Hopefully this will jump start our Auctions "OLD SCHOOL" like. Heck I mite have to look into my Discus Tank to see who mite be available!!!
