UV or not??

I've never used UV and my understanding was you don't really need to use them if you do enough water changes.

If you are getting ick, I'd suggest treating your fish with salt (1TBS/5 Gallons) and adding QuickCure.

If you have plecos and plants, though, that is probably not a good idea.

lately ick  , cloud ,pop eyes had been gone away but i still ran UV 24/7 ... before UV i always do w/c every week 50% ... now 50% every 2 weeks and thing had been fine lately ..wierd huh?

I actually love to have algae bloom in my tank but the ick and parasites might be because your tank might be to small or else your over feeding your fish. I have a bunch of plecos and I do a 25-35% water change every 2 days

on the show tank it runs 24 x 7 - to kill parisites you have to run the water though slower.  There is a giude online of flow rates and expoure tiles to kill stuff

When the water turns green on the ikola's I move over there and it only takes a day and the water is clear and I move it back to the show tank

I have an 18w unit that spends most of its time on my 90g show tank.  I have it set up in a way that is pretty easy to take it off the 90g and move it around to other tanks.  I put it on my throp tank every now and then when I start to get green water.  I do a wc twice a week , but with the lights on for more then 12 hours stright I get green water every now and then.  A few hours  of the UV and its back to clear normal water.

the reason i asked cause ..i did w/c every week 50% but so far i had been fighting with ( ick ,parasite, some kind of skin problem) and no haven't add any new fish for a while then someone told me that i should get that UV ...anyways is your UV run 24/7 or just whenever the water turn green?
