I think if you spent 20 dollars on a new heater you should be good. Just do around 75 degrees so they will slow down a bit and do longer without food.

I have a 20 gallon tank set up in my classroom. Over the winter break they drop the heat significantly. I don't think the heater I have will be able to keep the tank near where I'd like. This Monday I came in to a tank at 70 degrees. The fish were all fine. I guess I have two questions:

What is the low temperature that would be safe for african cichlids, saulosi, in this case to be at for two weeks?

The other is if I remove them for a period of two weeks will I have to recycle the tank? I was told my room will be set at 60, but it is always about 5 degrees cooler than stated.
