I would try the salt before the Metro. I don't like to medicate.

Get Epson salt. It's known to help with the bloat of mbuna and topheus. I'd use a tablespoon/10 gallons.

Also, do a water change before treating.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

i have had a few outbreaks fo malawi bloat and havent lost a fish when i tried to fix it. if i see one fish with it i pull them and cull them. but i have saved a whole tank twice.

how i saved the whole tank -

METROZOL - I use a product called metro+ I bought it at Aquarium adventure. I pull the charcol from the filter. Get a dixie cup and add the propper amount of medicine to it. Mix it with some warm water to disolve it in the cup of water. Add the mix to the tank.  The next day remove about 20% of tank water and add new dechlorinated water and redose the medicine. do this again on doy 3 with a half a dose of medicine and just a WC on day 4. by now they should be looking better

this whole time starve the tank. on day 2 after the waterchange add a small amount of medicine to the dixie cup and disolve with warm water. add cichlid pellets to the mix and let soak for 10 minutes or so then feed to the tank. You may have to do this a few days before they will eat. even after  you stop bathing the tank continue to feed medicated food that you make every day - they will eat eventually.

for your one fish treat the same way as described abpve but strip the female before you treat. since bloat is an internal problem part of the cure is eating the medicated food. if she's holding she wont eat.

One of my female demasoni has a severe case of bloat. she has been holding for about a week and i hadnt seen her due to her hiding out all the time. I saw her today and she is massive, almost twice the normal size. Never had any fish with bloat before, what is the best way to deal with it, if there is one?
Thanks, Charlie
