200 amp panel will be good for your operation. I was running 100amp with alot of tanks and no issues.

To all, appreciate all the feed.  Gonna go with consensus and master breeder Mike's advice. I'm ok on power supplies  and will take you up on the pvc when my day job settles down a bit.  All work, no play....

6 hours of no water flow in the filters will kill the bio filters.  If there are snails in the tnaks you will be even worse off.

I would clean the filters real well.  soak the bio media in the tank while the filters are off.  You can do that ahead of time.

Once power is back on, you can reset the cannisters.

I have a ton of power cords and power strips that you can come borrow.  i need them back by november for xmas.

If you wanna string the pvc this weekend, let me know.  we can do it in two - three hours max.

I would go with your thoughts about cleaning them out also, why take the chance?

BTW, going with a 200 amp panel?

As a fish tank and home owner,  you should already OWN a generator.  Go get one.  Will run ya about 4 or 5oo for a good one.

I think if you went to home depot rented a generator for 20-50 dollars and used it. You would be fine and I would plug everything in expect the lights.

I think you should be fine without running anything. Here read this www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=164420&highlight=

Will you not have enough plugs to keep them running? If not I would take the bio-media out of the filters and put it in the tank with an air stone to keep the water moving around it. Then clean the rest of the filter. Its a good time to clean up all the gunk the builds up over time in canisters and HOB's.

Are you running individual tank heaters as well? Centralized heat? How are you going to keep your tanks warm for the time period? They might be ok for a few hours without heat, but i wouldn't go more than 3 or 4 hours. Just a suggestion.
