Bows are prone to columnaris.  They develop white lips and what we call threading.  You will sometimes see white hair-like wisps hanging from them.  This is an indicator that water conditions are slightly "off" for them.  Upping water changes will clear this up right away.  Stop the melafix, salt and meds.  All bows need at this stage is nice fresh water.

Oops, sorry.  I just saw that this was an old thread that was pulled up.  But if this happens again to any bow keepers out there, it is very common with them and just up the water changes.
Take care,
Mary.

patience, with meds some work faster them others and all depends how bad the infection is,you did follow procedure of removal of carbon?just checking, how much salt did you add?what it recomends? i usually keep about 3 times that amount in my tanks all the time, but thats me and works for me just fine, but otherwise give it the time it needs to run it's course on the meds,melafix/pimafix take time also

need a tanks drilled, or reconditioned the glass? yes I still do this

Give the Jungle a chance. I have heard pretty good things about jungle clear.

I tried the salt and melafix and it didn't seem to be getting any better, so I went to the LFS and piced up some Jungle Fungus Clear.  I'm not convinced it's doing anything other than turning my water blue, and I see some of the dempseys with some white on their mouths.  Is there a med that works that I can pickup at a standard LFS, or do I need to order something?

i doubt there is any interspecies liplocking going on.

It is a behaviour uncommon to rainbows.

Big water changes every day for a few days, raise the heat a couple of degrees, use pimafix (better anti fungal properties) and salt liberally.

On second thought bag the salt.  You probably have cats in there.  Do a salt bath to all scalled fish.  1 cup per ten gallons of water.  soak them for 15 minutes or until they look stressed.

That usually works

they could be worse, but it could be the lip locking, but treat them anyway drop the melafix if you already didn't add some salt to help also, and watch them just looks like lil bit of a tisk between the two species, ant chance you can move them around?

I figured it might be lip locking, with the JDs, but the rainbows have some serious bulge on their upper lip.  Here are some pics.  They aren't the best, but you can kind of tell.
