It will break the chloramine bond but will NOT remove.(ammonia) depending on the city it may be little enough to be removed by the bio-filter without any problems...This is where a little bit of Prime goes a long way.

That's true. I was told to dissolve it in a gallon of hot water and then use a few drops per gallon.

Whoa. This stuff is for removing chlorine, not ammonia compounds. This is solid? What I use is a stock solution, and I don't know how strong it is. If you're using solid material be careful how much you use.

I'll give that a try. I hope it works. It would save me a good bit of money. I am planning on adding a new bank of tanks and I really want this to work.

What I would do is take a 5 gallon bucket of tap water, test it for Ammonia and then treat it with your powder and then test again, look for a rise in ammonia that should tell you if it will work for you or not.

I don't know if it does or not, but I've been using it for years ( Dechlor ) since I change 300 gallons of water a week, and haven't had a problem.

I bought a product at the MASI that says it is 100% sodium thinosulfate. I have been doing some reading and found that it does not treat chlorimines. so is this junk now? Of course we have chlorimines. I asked the guy and he said it did, but now I think I was had.
