I just use straight water - enough bacteria survives plus bacteria in the tank.

You need the high pressure of a strong faucet or hose.

Can water treated with Cloram-X be used, rather then the aquarium water, to clean filter media and pads? I know now that water straight from the tap shouldn't be used(even tho that's what I've been doing years) because it kills the beneficial bacteria.
