WORMS!!!!

I think it may actually be a planaria. Some planaria species get up close to an inch in length. If you take a look at the head, planarians have a triangular look which is pretty distinctive.

You might want to try a product called Bausman's Tonic. It's pretty safe to use and I've had success using it to kill some aquarium pests. I've not used it on planaria, but I believe the stuff in it should kill them off.

I have a confession. I'm a cichlaholic.

these things look like leeches almost, 2 tiny eyes on top, highly flexible and contortable, they are flat mostly and about 10mm long when streched out as in the pic.

mostly I'm concerned if they are harmful to my fish.If they are benign they they can stay. Since getting discus in the spring I've seen more tiny creatures in my tank than i ever did in the 15 years prior of keeping a tank.

Definitely not planaria. Planaria are really small and are not worms.

got another interesting specimen today, found 2 of these on the glass, smashed one and captured the other

Any ideas what this thing is, I tried searching it as best I could and think it could be planaria or a leach... I haven't added anything new to my tank since April.

uploading the picture took some of the quality out, I can send a better one

Ive been doing 30% daily water changes since Thursday with the exception that I skipped Sunday.

Ill mark it down for a repeat of the deworming a month from now.

they are showing more activity but the one is still staying hidden most of the time and thusly doesnt get much to eat, it is still looking healthy though so hopefully what it is getting is enough.

You must repeat the worming procedure after 30 days to get the next generation of them. Same as any antitheminic ( worming) procedure.

By the way the current version of Amazonas has number of great articles around discus.

Some of the best reading on Discus that I have seen - really nice.

I think I have the worms cleared out, did a back to back course of prazipro and metronidazole.

however the behavior of the 3 remaining discus is starkly different than it was before the one died. they are now skittish and hide alot, 2 of the 3 seem to come out to eat at feedings while the third and probably largest remains hidden. while I still had 4 discus they were always out moving around generally mid tank.

did the loss of one of them maybe throw their group dynamic off, the one that died was always the boldest and routinely came to my hand and would pack at my fingers when I was feeding them. Im especially worried about the one that stays hidden, coloration is still good and its fins are up but i dont see him eat much is anything

I started a course of metronidazole and prazipro last night, figured Id hit em with both to make sure I killed em all off in 1 go round. Couldnt find the flubendazole.

any suggestions for preventing a reoccurance of these worms? i never saw signs that the was a developing problem, the fish that died was eating well, and well colored and nit hiding or anything, no stringy feces either.
