Whetfish pretty much summed it all up for ya, in addition to that if you are using a new filter for the 55 I would get it running on that 20 asap to get some extra bio into the new filter and then when setting up the 55 make sure you have both filters running on the new 55 and also try to use the same substrate, just take it out of the 20 and put it into the 55 to help with the bio

There are easier ways to do this, but here is how I would do it.

Set the 55g up where you want it, make sure it's level.  Add about 10 gallons of dechlorinated water that is at the temperature you want the tank...since it's relatively warm out, you probably could get away with room temp water so long as you're not using any AC.

If possible move your fish separate from your furniture.  Otherwise just pack up the fish last and unpack them first.  Either bag the fish or bucket them.  Since we're only talking 20 gallons, I would move all of the water.

Put the water that doesn't have fish in it into the 55g.
Set up the filter you've been using on the 20g and your heater.
Put fish in the tank.
Pour in the water the fish were in.
Fill the rest of the tank (should be about 15 gallons) with dechlorinated water that matches the water temp in the tank.

This method isn't very stressful on the fish.  It's like a 63% water change.

Not checked for facts.

Okay I'm still very new to the aquarist hobby and looking for some advice.  I am moving in the next 2 weeks and I'm looking for tips on moving my fish.  Also I'm upgrading from a 20 gal tank to a 55 gal tank.  So I'm really not sure how to go about this at all.  So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading this post,
Ochammor
