I would think 2 or 3 weeks would do. If ya wanna speed it up, take some stuff from the HOB's and put it in the XP3.

Also, congrats on the xp3. Awesome line of filters.

I personally would let it run in conjunction with the other filters you have for about 3 to 4 weeks to be safe before letting it go on it's own if thats what your getting at, also depends on how heavily stocked the tank is also

Folks;

  How long will it take for a Xp3 or other canister filter of similar size to be "biologically working" when placed on  a tank. Let us assume the tank is well cycled and the filter is new out of the box without any "seed medium" available and the tank is filtered by HOBs. and powerheads.
