I've been trying to get a picture to post but now the one I think had the injury looks normal. As bad as it looked I can't believe it healed itself. I am keeping my eye on them. They hide a lot.

Yeah.  The male ngara flametail kept chasing the female around which caused her to release all her eggs and like you said, it healed by itself.  Weird.

Got Green? What's your carbon footprint?

I have calvus and comps growing out in the came tank and they all hide behind the sponge.

But they like brichardi fry....oops.

I don't know if the female had too many eggs and it caused her to over extend her top lip, but looks bad and you can see the eggs right through the membrane.

That happened to my friend's female Ngara flametail.  She's currently holding eggs and I believe that was the cause of the loack jaw.

Interesting....I assumeed my female got it from fighting.  I've also wondered if yawning too enthusiastically could cause it, like a hyperextension of the mouth.

Not checked for facts.

very similar except today it looks like something is sticking up on the snout. I hope it isn't a bone. I will try to get a picture tonight.

It sounds like you are describing loack jaw.  I had a comp that got it, she continued to eat, she just looked funny.  I haven't successfully healed it but I know how to do it in theory.  On the upper mouth membrane that is extended you'll see a "bone" running dow the top.  What you'll want to do is gently extend lips out and get that bone going back into the mouth rather than resting outside.  Once the mouth closes with ease, I've been told you should close the mouth and hold the fish, mouth shut, under water for about a minute.  Then don't feed for four days and add some salt.

Does it look like this(top fish)?

If you have a pic it would help out tremendously. How long has he been this way? If its only been a short time give him a couple of days and see if he can work it out himself.

Seriously I was planning to post a thread about Comp breeding tonight and I went to look at the tank and one of the males has a problem with his mouth. It's hard to explain but his lips are together, closed, but the membrane from the top lip to his face is stretched out thin. I can see his tongue moving through the membrane and I don't think he can eat. Is there anything I can do? I'm hoping it will fix itself because it will be a nightmare to catch him.
