When 10 tanks aren't enough -or- My fishroom build in progress

I'm planning on heating the room, not the individual tanks......  For ventilation, there is a 720 cfm exhaust fan installed that vents to the Great Outdoors.

Sounds like you have it all planned out. Good to hear!

Now I'm jealous!

Sweet!

Are you heating the room or the tanks individually? Also do you have an air exchanger in the plan? Vapor barrier was a good idea but the room will get uncomfortably humid if you don't have a way to vent it.

Great looking room. Now you need find the fish!

Also installed a full size refrigerator and stocked it with "adult" beverages..... Next step here is to DRINK the adult beverages.

that my friend is never the next step, rather is included in all steps
and for every tank that doesn't leak you should have another beverage(thus the term"bottoms up") that way if it's empty it can never leak  ;D

Hi........  My name is Jim........ and I have MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome)........

I started out simply enough....... Had a 55/40 over/under many years ago with an Oscar on top, and a turtle on the bottom...... Kids came along and other things became higher priority....... My tanks were ultimately "garage saled" for $100.  :(

Fast forward 20 years........

Got a SW reef tank going (120g)........  started a 125 FW......... picked up a 70 off of Craigslist....... then a 46 bow....... a couple of hex's.....  Then another 55........  the a 20/20 over/under.......  Then a 300 acrylic ..........

I had become an addict

Then came that fateful day....... A simple Craigslist ad....... A fish distributor had gone out of business........ they had LOTS of tanks........  and they were cheap (35 cents / gallon) and predrilled.......

So I rented a truck, packed up the wife and Puggy and headed out on a 400 mile roundtrip to buy tanks.http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/mcblp/PICT0013.jpg?t=1270668464

We arrived at the address given and it was confirmed......  They had a BOATLOAD of tanks to sell !!!!!!
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/mcblp/PICT0019.jpg?t=1270668576

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/mcblp/PICT0020.jpg?t=1270668700

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/mcblp/PICT0021.jpg?t=1270668743

We "did the deal" and I drove away with around 65-70 tanks.

Then I remembered......  I had no place to put them !!!!!!!

So I guess I'll have to build a fishroom.............  The basement was the obvious spot......  Over the years, kids moving in and out and things that  are too precious to toss out, or rarely used stuff had accumulated in my basement.......  It was deep in there......

Sleeves were rolled up and obscenities were muttered, but eventually I had a clean slate upon which to build my masterpiece.....

The first step was to apply UGL drylok to the exterior basement walls...... Then I did a little rough framing...
http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx359/Jim_in_Michiana/PICT0042.jpg?t=1267714124

Framed, insulated, roughed in electrical and stretched 4 mil vapor barrier...

http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx359/Jim_in_Michiana/PICT0079.jpg?t=1267714418

Sheathed it in with 7/16 OSB......

http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx359/Jim_in_Michiana/PICT0093.jpg?t=1267714634

Painted and started to build racks.....

http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx359/Jim_in_Michiana/PICT0119.jpg?t=1267715125

More rack building.....

Tanks in place....... They need serious cleaning......

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/mcblp/stuff2/Picture003.jpg?t=1269230871

Finished wiring in the electrical outlets. There are 122 outlets in the room with no spot on any wall being further than 4 feet away from 4 outlets !!! Can you tell I hate splitters and extension cords ???

Regenair blower has been installed in the closet next to the fishroom, wired in, and air loop has been run on the ceiling around the entire room..... Next step here is to install all the individual outlet valves.

Controls for automatic waterchange system and plumbing have been installed with hot/cold mixer and 3 stage water filter system which will filter down to 2 microns...... Next step here is to continue on with the plumbing that will go on the ceiling before splitting off to each individual tank.

18 of the 57 tanks have been laboriously cleaned (they were in dreadful shape) with razor blades, muriatic acid, and lots of elbow grease. Each tank is taking about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. to clean up decently.

Also installed a full size refrigerator and stocked it with "adult" beverages..... Next step here is to DRINK the adult beverages.

Yesterday I leak tested the first 4 tanks (4 20g longs) No problems found  Now if my luck will hold for the next 53 tanks, I'll be all set !!!!!!

Further updates to follow  ;D
