Breeders Award Program (BAP)

The Breeder's Award Program was established to recognize member achievements in breeding various Cichlids. The BAP objectives are:

1. To learn to breed Cichlids and further one's interest activity and knowledge in the hobby;
2. To accumulate points at each level, as outlined below, and receive a plaque commemorating the achievement;
3. To succeed in becoming a Master Breeder, as defined below, entitling the member to receive a lifetime membership in the GCCA.

BAP Point Levels

Award Level	Description	Points	Total Points
AWARD I	Breeder Ten spawnings, raised per rules below.	10 Points	10 Points
AWARD II	Advanced Breeder Fifteen additional spawnings, raised per rules below, or alternatively, completion of an approved experiment for 15 points.	Additional 15 Points	25 Points
AWARD III	Expert Breeder Twenty-five additional spawnings, raised per rules below, or alternatively, 10 additional spawnings plus completion of an approved experiment for 15 points.	Additional 25 Points	50 Points
AWARD IV	Master Breeder Fifty additional spawnings, raised per rules below, or alternatively, 35 additional spawnings plus completion of an approved experiment for 15 points.	Additional 50 Points	100 Points

Breeders Award Program Rules

1. Spawn and raise at least 5 fry to 60 days of age from the date of their becoming free swimming.
2. Fry must be from breeders personal fish, not fish on loan from and still owned by another person.
3. Credit will be given for spawning any species of fish only once and will not be given for spawning different color varieties of a species.
4. Spawning details must be recorded on a BAP "Breeder's Report" and must be turned in to the BAP Chairman before credit can be given.
5. Five fry, properly bagged, must be donated to the GCCA mini-auction for each spawn. A member may choose up to two spawns during each calendar year when a donation will not be required.
6. Only members in good standing, as defined by the Constitution, may enter and remain in the BAP.
7. Only members of the GCCA Board and BAP Committee may verify spawnings. Transfer points are acceptable only if the verifying board or committee member serves either capacity in the other club.

9. Verifications allowable starting May 1, 1976.

1. Submit detailed experiment proposal to BAP Committee member. The BAP Committee will meet to consider the proposal.
2. After receiving BAP Committee approval, perform the experiment while recording the details in an experiment notebook.
3. Submit a copy of the experiment notebook and an article suitable for publication summarizing the procedure, explaining the results and noting the significance.
4. BAP Committee members must make periodic examinations of the set-up and progress of the experiment.
5. The experiment must involve several spawnings of multiple pairs and span three generations.
6. Except in special circumstances, the experiment should not duplicate results reported previously.
7. Examples of BAP experiments include: satisfying Smithsonian Institute requirements for establishment of a new hybrid as a separate species; determining a genetic mapping of various characteristics of a species; or determining the effects of different environmental factors on the general health, breeding activities and offspring of a species.
