Good times keep rolling over here. About 10 or so days ago, Kegger pointed out what I had suspected. One of my female rostratus was holding. I waited a couple days and moved her to a 30 maternity tank. Great thing about this, is that the tank was already seeded and ready from the Oreo. Tanginicae female I had just stripped. So today, I pulled the blanket off the tank I use to give holding moms privacy and got a great surprise!  About 60 or 70 free swimmers. And BIG ones at that. Must be almost .75" long. She must've been holding longer than I suspected. Anyhow, I'm stoked. That's 3 big fish I've bred in the last 12 months. The Oreos, Champs and Fossos.

As a side note, anyone active in the BAP program who has offered up fish for free, I am willing to throw some fry. These are a gorgeous fish when colored up. And my male is a super looking fish if I do say so myself.

Fossochromis rostratus males are easily amongst the most beautiful of all cichlids.

Nuth must be on vacation, normally he leads the cheer leading squad.  Actually, you should be a little more exacting in your choice of words.  Many a fool can breed a large fish; breeding large mouthbrooders is a lot harder, IMO.  The females, although less likely to be killed, are also less likely to hold to term.

Well done.

Agreed, you need to know what's going on to breed those larger mouthbrooders.  I've tried (and trying) a handful of times, but failed miserably.  Very impressive accomplishment, Bob.

Hey Muske,  sorry I missed the questions.  Here is a link to some pick taken by Radek.

And they are in a 210 (7'x2') with some Champsochromis Caruleus and some botias that act as clean up crew.  As a side note,  I just pulled another 60 or so swimmers yesterday.
