AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!

water changes are bad!!!!

the fry need the dirty water to live! in the wild they spawn in caves where the water is not very clean. they need to stay with the water they were laid in. ive gone 2 and 1/2 months without a water change on juveniles. all i did was add old water from the 75 community angel tank, net out junk from the bottom, and squeeze the sponge. they juvenile BN are very sensitive to new water, i lost 2 whole spawns of a about 50 each due to weekly changes and then moving tanks entirely. i believe the person i talked to was ladi go, and i exchanged some emails about what i did wrong and water changes was one of them. and drift wood helps also. hope they live!

Klassic Hobbies

Going to have to disagree with you. The fish are not sensitive to the new water...They are very sensitive to the chlorine in the new water. I bet if you aged your water for a day and then put it in they would be fine.

No matter in the wild or in tank most fry need fresh clean water. Ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are all toxic compounds at some point. If these are to high it will hinder growth and possibly kill.

Klassic, I hate to differ.  But a presence of ammonia or nitrites can make any fish sick and die.  Plus, most of these creatures are far removed from their wild counterparts.  They have been raised in tanks and adapted to tank conditions.  In the wild, there is a constant supply of fresh water even though they may be living in the dregs of a cave.
Take care,
Mary.

Agreed.

while doing 5 gallon water changes a day since saturday night and vaccuuming the **** off the sand i have not lost a single BN.

i do need to get them ino a larger tank though. i have an empthy 20 long i can possibly use, but i dont know where i can put it i dont have a stand for it and would rather not keep it on the floor.

Ray it appears that you are doing the WC's with good results. I would keep doing what you are doing.

Excellent news!  Look on Craigslist.org for a stand.  People often simply give old ones away.  That's how I got one of mine.  Also, Living Sea Aquarium is have their "Big Bag Sale" this weekend.  Not sure if it applies to hardware, but even so, the ugly but very utilitarian metal stands are pretty cheap.

This is my first post and I can only tell you what works for me. I have spawned ,raised and sold hundreds of the Albino B/N. I use bare bottom tanks they make it easier to clean bottoms I feed french style green beans almost 100% of the time. I use sponge fiters and a hang on back filter to get a lot of water movement I also do a 30 to 50 percent water change once a week I also leave the young with the parents until they get some size on them. I've had several spawns with their parents at the same time. It just takes time I killed my
first twenty or so and I still lose one now and then  but once they get going their hard to stop.

couple of questions

how much and how often?
boiled up and peeled without the bean inside or just toss them in?

Kegger -

boiled, split, without.

problem with greenbeans is the younger BN can not eat the skin which is why you have to split them. and you also have to fish out the skins.

since i am in an apartment and am not "trying " to breed anything - i almost consider it a burden when it happens. if i had the BN set up for breeding i would have left the parents with them, but if you read a previous post my BN spawned in my demasoni tank. if i didnt move them they all would have been eaten.
