Tested my tap water today.

PH read 7.6 (after about ten minutes the same test went down to a 7.2)
kh read 192.6 (11 drops)
gh read 176 (10 drops)

With the drop in the ph like that I'm thinking of adding a little aragonite into the pfs.

I might try to keep the substrate under 1.5" to prevent that from happening.

please remember that the finer the sand the tighter it will compact trapping gases underneath so make sure you clean/ rake the sand with every water change

Thank you everyone! Now I've just got to find mystic white Pfs at one of the local pool supply stores.

Mystic White Pool Sand has been recommended by Madeto and I have to stand by his recommendation.

Talking to the local pool company, they regard Mystic White as the best pool sand and said it makes a difference in keeping the pool clean. Bags are about $12 which is not going to sway a pool company to buy one bag over the other.

You can literally grab the bag pour it into a tank full of fish and the tank will be clear in 15 minutes

Bright white silica sand to me looks fake, I like simple cheap playground sand...

Sand is sand... Your pretty much looking for something you think will look good in the tank and for which you are willing to pay for.

Most anything on the market your going to have to rinse at least a little. Stay away from anything that is used in construction...trust me it is filthy and takes forever to clean.

Pool filter sand and sand blasting sand are both good pretty clean options. I have both in my tanks.

It's pretty much all the same as it is just white silica sand, don't worry about brand, just look for best price
