Is it really FREE to place an ad?
Yes! The Greater Chicago Cichlid Association wants to encourage the cichlid hobby. You must register to place an ad.
Am I subject to any rules or regulations?
Yes. See the Terms of Use listed on the main page of our website. We have a large link at the bottom of every classifieds page to our Terms of Use, too.
Basically, the agreement says that you will misrepresent what you sell on our Classifieds and that you will not use, or allow someone else to use, our system to SPAM other users or invade their privacy.
How do I contact a seller?
- When browsing an ad, click the "Ask Seller a Question" link.
- If you have not already logged in, you will be prompted to log in.
- If you haven't registered yet, you will have an opportunity to do so.

Do I have to use my real name?
No. You can use any screen name that you like.
What email address should I use?
For best results, use a public email address like one from Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail, etc.
If your email system uses a "white list" system, make sure you add "webmaster@gcca.net" to your list of safe email addresses, or you will not receive any communication from the system.
Is it OK to type my email address directly in the body of the ad?
You can if you want to, but you are going to get spammed big time if you do by the various spambots that troll the web for email addresses in the clear.
How do I put a picture in my ad?
Our system allows you to add up to two pictures to your ad. Pictures need to be:
- GIF or JPEG Format
- No more than 500 pixels wide X 500 pixels tall
- No more than 50K in file size
Our file size limits mean that you can't take pictures directly off your digital camera and upload them since they will be too big. You will need to use an image editor to reduce/crop the size of your image before you can upload it. One good, relatively inexpensive image editor is Adobe Photoshop Elements. A free online alternative is Photoshop Express.
Why can't I see my ad? How long does it take to have it approved?
To prevent spam and non-fish ads, each ad on our system is reviewed by one of our Ad Administrators. Normally, ads are approved within 24 hours. Our ad admins are volunteers however; so it might take a bit longer at certain times such as weekends or holidays before your ad is approved.
Are ads automatically approved?
No. The GCCA Ad Administration team manually approves each ad. We reserve the right to edit your ad for obvious mispellings or to change the category.
I lost my password. What do I do? Click the Login button and then look for the text "[Forgot your password? Click here]"
I can't Log in!
There are three reasons you may not be able to log into the system:
1) You never verified your account with us.
We get this all the time! After registering, you should have received an email from
with a link to finalize your registration. If you didn't, it is likely in your junk mail folder. Go find it and click on the link in the message.
2) Incorrect user name or password.
Remember, these are case sensitive. Brown is not the same as brown!
Make sure your CAPS LOCK is off.
3) Your browser needs attention. You can try to:
- Delete your browser history and cache and restart your computer.
- Check your security settings. They should be Medium.
- Try a different browser such as Firefox. It's a quick install and works well with our system.
TIP: Always log out of the system when you are done. Internet Explorer has a habit of not expiring the tracking cookie we use to track your use on our system. Effectively, that locks you out until IE or your computer is reset somehow.
How do I delete an ad?
- Log in.
- Click on the "Your Ads" link. A list of your ads will appear.
- Click the Close link to close out an ad.
How do I renew an ad?
- Log in.
- Click on the "Your Ads" link. A list of your ads will appear.
- Click the Renew link.
How long can my ad stay on the system?
You have your choice of 7, 14, 21 or 30 days.
